Pancreatic Cancer Exosome Research Solution

Online Inquiry

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a recalcitrant and serious disease due to its complex and latent pathogenesis and the lack of early diagnostic methods. Mortality from PC is rapidly increasing and is expected to be the second most common of all malignancies by 2030. Therefore, researchers are working to investigate the biological mechanism of PC occurrence and development and to develop markers to screen for early curable pancreatic lesions. Increasing evidence suggests that exosomes play a crucial role in tumorigenesis and progression. In recent years, the widespread use of exosomes as biomarkers and drug carriers has made them attractive in the field of PC.

Role of exosomes in PC

Exosomes are nanosized, lipid bilayer membrane-enclosed extracellular vesicles (EVs) ranging in diameter from 30 to 150. These EVs contain functional biomolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolites and can be secreted by a wide range of cell types and cancer cells. Exosomes, as important information transporters between cells, facilitate cell-cell and cell-microenvironment communication in both normal and malignant cells. In the past decade, there has been an increasing number of exosome-related studies that have demonstrated the involvement of exosomes in a variety of cancer-related processes, including tumor cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis, apoptosis inhibition, chemoresistance, and immune tolerance.

Functions of exosomes in pancreatic cancer (PC)
Specific roleFunction description
PC cell proliferationDifferent sources of exosomes have different or even opposite effects on PC cell proliferation, which needs further elucidation and in-depth study.
PC invasion and metastasisExosomes may promote cancer invasion and metastasis by regulating stromal cells, remodeling the extracellular matrix (ECM), and stimulating angiogenesis.
Formation of PC drug resistanceExosomes from the PC or tumor microenvironment can promote drug resistance of PC cancer cells through regulating proteins, associated genes, RNA, and signaling pathways.

Applications of exosomes in PC

  • Exosomes as biomarkers for non-invasive diagnosis of PC, including diagnosis and prognosis
  • Exosomes as therapeutic targets of PC
  • Exosomes as a therapeutic vehicle of PC
